The Nebraska Boy's Ranch fully utilizes its rural sandhills ranch setting to develop a positive work ethic....

I.                  NBR fully utilizes its rural sandhills ranch setting to develop a positive work ethic. All boys are required to maintain their own living area, as well as share in chores, to maintain their respective houses. Five days a week (during the summer) and on Saturdays (during the school year) boys work at a wide variety of jobs on the Ranch. These work sessions are for the purpose of developing responsible, positive work habits, not to see how much work can be accomplished. Boys can earn money during these work sessions. During hay season, boys are hired to assist the Ranch Manager in mowing, raking and stacking hay. These also are paid positions.

As part of our work program, we have developed a money management system. This program is intended to teach the boys a sense of managing their personal finances and develop pride. NBR has developed a system of real life money management using wage tickets, time cards, paychecks, deposit slips, personal checking account numbers and checkbooks, savings plans and budget development. Money earned by the boys is kept in separate accounts and is spent only by the boy, and is not used for his basic needs.

Part-time off campus jobs are available to the boys during the regular school year at various businesses in Alliance, provided the boy has met stated objectives such as work ethic, social skills, and educational obligations. Off campus work is available during the summer months to qualified boys.

"Leg-Up" -- In life at some point in time most everyone will need a leg-up. It may simply mean a hug, a pat-on-the-back or sometimes help that only a professional can provide. The Nebraska Boy's Ranch is here to help provide that "LEG-UP" with a safe home environment for boys in need and to provide adult living skills for their future!
