WHAT SHOULD I DO IF THERE ARE PROBLEMS DURING A VISIT?

First of all, don’t give up too soon. This could jeopardize future visits and perhaps permanently damage your relationship.

  1. Try to resolve the problem as a family and reach an agreement about what should happen if there is a repeat during this visit.
  2. If this cannot be accomplished, either contact someone in your local NDHHS office, a pastor, a counselor, etc., or contact NBR for support and ideas.
  3. If there is no change in attitude or behavior after first trying 1 or 2, again contact the NBR Program Director to discuss possibly having a resident return to the Ranch early. This does happen occasionally and when it does, you need to carefully and objectively assess your parental role in the situation as well as the resident’s role. Do not become accountable for a visiting residents behavior, but do be accountable for your own. We stress that it is preferable to work out the problem if at all possible. Everyone will grow and benefit from that experience.

"Leg-Up" -- In life at some point in time most everyone will need a leg-up. It may simply mean a hug, a pat-on-the-back or sometimes help that only a professional can provide. The Nebraska Boy's Ranch is here to help provide that "LEG-UP" with a safe home environment for boys in need and to provide adult living skills for their future!
