I.
IF MY SON NEEDS COUNSELING, IS IT
AVAILABLE?
Yes, several types of counseling are available
for the residents, depending on their needs. When it is
determined by the placing agency that therapy is not
necessary, but daily support, assistance, encouragement,
and a listening ear are needed, our staff are on duty
daily, and available around the clock. NBR feels a lot
of good counseling takes place at this level. We have
Certified Mental Health Professionals who are available
to help with a specific problem or to serve as a
resource for Direct Care Staff to refer a boy to when
the discussion becomes too involved for them to deal
with.
We utilize the services of
other local mental health agencies and professionals for
medications and psychological evaluation needs. If drugs
and/or alcohol have been an issue, MHP are available to
help those youth as well. Depending upon the depth of
the problem, a resident may attend one or two Alcoholics
Anonymous meetings per week, depending upon the service
plan, pre-treatment plan, goals, court orders, etc.
Family counseling is also available, upon request of the
family, and communication with the placing agency. The
need for this therapy is usually determined by the
placing agency. We believe in the need for family
counseling as an important part of the reunification
process, and encourage families to participate.
