ARE THE BOYS ALLOWED TO USE TOBACCO PRODUCTS?

No, and there are several reasons for this. Probably the best reason for the rule, and the one least likely to convince the residents is the medical evidence supporting how hazardous tobacco is to a person’s health. Secondly, it is against Nebraska law for minors to purchase or use tobacco. We are aware that it is a law that is more often ignored than enforced. However, as adult role models for residents at NBR, we feel it is important to obey rules and laws. In fact, NBR will not allow staff to smoke while on duty, and will dismiss anyone who we find is violating our non-smoking policy! Thirdly, safety is a major factor at NBR. Allowing 24-28 residents to smoke would magnify the danger of fire, which obviously could endanger lives and property. Our rural setting heightens fire dangers significantly. Fourth, the use of chewing tobacco in a group living situation with boys is an unclean habit that cannot be condoned. Fifth, NBR is a drug free zone. Use of tobacco products by minors is a law violation under any condition, and the penalty doubles in a drug free zone.

"Leg-Up" -- In life at some point in time most everyone will need a leg-up. It may simply mean a hug, a pat-on-the-back or sometimes help that only a professional can provide. The Nebraska Boy's Ranch is here to help provide that "LEG-UP" with a safe home environment for boys in need and to provide adult living skills for their future!
